About John Perry

A qualified counsellor and experienced trainer on disability issues, John has over thirty years’ experience of providing support, advice, guidance and advocacy to disabled people on employment, education, training and benefits.

John says: “I use my own ‘lived experience’ of disability to help other people. We all have a right to participate equally in society; I want to use my skills, knowledge and experience to help other disabled people to access the services and opportunities they are entitled to.

From 1968 to 1980, John attended St Vincent’s School for the Blind in Liverpool. Using Braille, he studied the whole range of academic subjects.

He then went on to the Royal National College for the Blind in Hereford.

When he left Hereford, John gained qualifications in training and counselling. He has worked in a variety of roles in the voluntary and private sectors, supporting disabled people with a wide range of physical, emotional and sensory impairments.

“I would like to thank my late wife Sharon, Mum and Dad and my brothers Richie, Mike and Alan and my sister Joan, along with my wider circle of  family and friends for supporting, helping and putting up with my moods, aspirations, in some cases foolhardy decisions and actions!”

“I would also like to acknowledge those people who have supported me in the past and continue to do so. I would also include organisations who have played their part in developing me as a person, helping me to have values, form opinions and play an active role both in a personal and professional capacity.”

John Perry in his own words:

You can hear John in conversation with Tom Walker, from Walk on Water PR, talking about his life, why he set up the Focus Employment Hub and the services he is providing.

About us

Focus Employment Hub Limited was set up by John Perry. We are a social enterprise based in St Helens. John has received specific funding both from the lottery for the REACH project to provide free support for disabled people and people with long term health conditions, and from St Helens Council to support migrants.
Both projects will provide emotional and practical support with the focus being on employment. The aim will be to provide tailored support to a small group of people on a 1-2-1 basis, or in a group setting to realise their potential and to help them to achieve their personal and professional goals.

Our vision

Testimonials & Case Studies

“When I first walked into John Perry’s office, I was struggling with anxiety due to my epilepsy.
My epilepsy nurse advised me to leave my job in a care home which was 12 hour shifts. It was no good for my health and I was on 70g of anxiety tablets. I’m now on 10g.
During this period, I was going to see John regularly and he advised me to be patient. I broke away from care work and it was the best thing I have ever done.
I felt like I was going to John forever, the day that my business was registered I was so proud of myself. John Perry you have been amazing for me all the way.
I say well done and thank you for your help, advice and support.
Maybe in a couple of years I will own my own shop and Sweet Tooth will be known all over Liverpool. I can’t thank you enough John!

In the short time I have known John Perry, I have found him to be a persuasive and articulate advocate.

On two occasions, he supported me at a very crucial and vulnerable time in my life. A man of delicate manner, he is candid and fair.

John has spoken for me after I lost my job due to a stroke and on another occasion, in liaising on my behalf for me in securing possible self-employment in the not too distant future.

The support you have provided me with has been more than amazing.

You have been able to be there when I needed you the most, especially at some last minute meetings.

The professional and personal attention you provide is exceptional …

Saying thank you will never be enough!
You have a heart of gold and you’re passionate about what you do! I can highly recommend your services to someone who really needs your help, especially where disability employment issues are concerned.
